Planning rules (quick UK refresher)
Most porches are permitted development if all of the following are true:

The overall height is 3 m or less.

It isn’t within 2 m of a boundary that fronts a highway.
Exceed those and your council will typically want a Householder application. Our calculator flags this and includes a typical allowance for the application and basic drawings. Always confirm with your local planning authority for edge cases and conservation areas.
